Our Trip to Buuurmingham

Well the drive was pretty long but we managed to navigate our way through Birmingham really well, which was a bonus considering they have very scary roads down there. Our hotel was ace with a check-in kiosk that spat out your room key for you! And we had brilliant views of the city, which we had expected to be a industrial concrete maze but it was actually pretty beautiful and had loads of old colonial looking buildings.

We got up early doors on Saturday morning and set off to find the venue which was called The Custard Factory! We unloaded and prepared ourselves for a busy fair and a busy fair it was. Our clothes seemed to go down really well, especially considering we were surrounded by stalls full of "extreme vintage" as we like to call it. We tend to stand out in a lot of these fairs because our stuff is more toned down and wearable than a lot of the vintage on the market.

All in all it was a successful trip, well until we decided to leave and almost witnessed a fight between a middle aged woman and a rather large gentleman. The poor woman was parked in front of us and had locked her keys in the car and she was blocking every other seller from getting out! So the man decided he had something to say about it. Luckily it didn't get to fisty-cuffs but it looked like it might have.

Well that little bit of drama sent us on our way and we got home at midnight and slept until Monday!

On a random Google search today (we are very good at putting off the hoovering and dusting) we noticed how much people show off their shops and we decided ours trumped a lot of them so we thought we'd show it off. Guess we've got rather complacent with our little quirky shop but it is actually pretty marvellous and we should learn to appreciate it more:

It's been a busy couple of weeks here at ed|ward.

Lucia has been off on holiday to sunny Spain and Lauren has been manning the shop which has been nice and busy with the college term beginning again. There were slight dramas with a laptop cable sparking and dying and a very risky attempt at putting up the first sign (which involved two people on two ladders having to work in unison in what can only be described high winds). We'll post photos of the new exterior of the shop once all three signs are up and the glossing is done!

It's an exciting but nervous week this week with the beginning of the fair season starting with a bang on Saturday in Edinburgh and Sunday in Glasgow. Lauren is off playing bridesmaid in Norwich at her best friend's wedding (like the film!) from Thursday so ed|ward loyal Joanna Couper has been temporarily hired for the weekend to help Lucia with these big ol' fairs. It's all very exciting.

Well we've signed up to a grand total of 5 fairs over the Autumn season:

Saturday 18th September - Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair, Edinburgh

Sunday 19th September - Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair, Glasgow

Saturday 25th September - The Vintage Fair, Birmingham

Sunday 3rd October - Gin in Teacups, Leslie

Saturday 30th October - Liverpool Metquarter Vintage and Fashion Fair.

Jeez! We'll maybe squeeze a couple more in if we're not completely exhausted and there's space available. But for now we're pretty happy with this lot. Venturing into England for the first time, tres excited. But that means more travelling and booking hotels like proper professionals! Yikes!

Jolly Good Jewellery is Jolly Good.

Jolly Good

We've started stocking a new concession in ed|ward this week and we're sure the quirky, individual jewellery of 'Jolly Good' will go down a storm with our customers. Toy car necklaces, domino brooches and jigsaw earrings will definitely make you stand out from the crowd and we adore the playful teaset pieces. We'll hopefully try and get them in a photoshoot soon because they'll add that little something extra to our outfits. Love love love.

And the first sign is done! Hurrah! It looks brilliant, even if we do say so ourselves. Now on to the next two *sigh*.

So it's Thursday, and nearly the end of August. How scary.

Next month sees our first birthday! We've been discussing today about what we're gonna do for it. Unfortunately half of ed|ward is going to be in Norwich playing bridesmaid to her best friend, and the other half is busy at fairs in Edinburger and Glasgow on the official weekend of our birthday so we're gonna try organise something for the weekend before. Any suggestions welcome for what we can do to celebrate; we were thinking of booking a band and clearing the middle of the shop so we can have a gig/party. Seems like an easygoing, fun way to mark the occassion.

What else...oh we're still cracking on with our signs. Almost finished the long one for the side which we're varnishing today and getting put up tomorrow. Then we've gotta take down the 'Jedward' sign (now even more vandalised!) and repeat the whole process. Arghhhh.

Busy busy busy couple of months coming up. Fairs in Edinburgh on 18th September, Glasgow 19th September, Birmingham 25th September, Leslie 3rd October and a few more that we're keeping quiet til we confirm. Very exciting though.

Thought we'd share a member of the ed|ward family with you to show how blooming stylish she is. This is Joanna and her leopard print bodysuit/vintage skirt combo was oh so gorgeous on Saturday night that we reckon it deserves a mention. She'll probably kill us for this. Also we're all gonna run out and buy the shoes, which are a steal from New Look at £25.

After deciding to start painting the shop last week (which is still only half done!) we've been cracking on with our new signs in the shop this week. Too poor to order shiny new ones from the signmakers we decided we would manage to make them ourselves. How naive we were...

After a lot of tracing, masking taping, and seeping paint we've only managed to make half of the first sign! It's probably gonna be this time next year before we actually finish them and get them up. Meanwhile the shop looks like a bombsite with all the paint cans, tape and large bits of wood kicking about, oh dear. But we hope it'll all be worth it and we can eventually say goodbye to the 'Jedward' sign that's still up just now (they're like soooo last year).

On another note though we managed to get our new dresses all washed and ironed so they are out on the rails. They're really quirky summery dresses that will still look great in the autumn/winter season too. They're a win win.

Let us Introduce Ourselves...

...we're ed|ward vintage. Welcome to our wonderful world.

We decided to start an official blog, in a place full of other bloggers, so we could share our experiences of running a vintage shop with anyone who wants to listen, really.

Our little vintage adventure began in 2009; with help from a friend from whom we inherited the skeleton of a vintage shop and from PSYBT who gave us the funding to get started.We worked tirelessly to create our vintage wonderland on Kirkcaldy High Street and in September 2009 we opened the doors to our eager customers.

We've been open for eleven months now and it has been a tough but very rewarding and exciting journey.

This blog will be a little insight into the day-to-day of life at the shop. Our busy times, our quiet times, our down times and our happy times (or the crazies as we call them, cabin fever often hits at a certain time of day). We hope you enjoying listening to our tales as much as we enjoy experiencing them.
